Treatment Advice & Aftercare

Facials

  • Drink plenty of water
  • No home exfoliation for 48 hours either side of your appointment
  • Avoid direct sunlight / sunbeds / heat treatments and hair removal for 24 hours
  • Use a minimum of make-up and other skincare for 8-24 hours. We offer bareMinerals Mineral Make-up to purchase, this is ideal to use after your treatments including waxing as (depending on the product) can have as few as 5 ingredients. ‘Make-up so pure, you can sleep in it’
  • For long term results use the prescribed homecare & book regular treatments
  • Always use an SPF. If you don’t already use one, speak to your therapist, who can advise the best Dermalogica product for your skin.
  • Biosurface Peel – separate aftercare will be given

PlasmaPRO

  • In the hours following your PlasmaPRO treatment, a mild burning sensation (similar to sunburn) may be experienced. This should subside within a couple of hours. If this discomfort lasts longer, anti-inflammatory medication can be taken (providing you are well and safe to take along with any other medications, you may be taking).
  • Swelling in and around the treated area may be experienced, this generally subsides within a few days, providing all correct aftercare is followed. Again, anti-inflammatory medication or anti-histamine may help.
  • If you have undergone PlasmaPRO eyelid tightening, a clean and sterile cold compress can be applied intermittently, for the first 48 hours. This aids in reducing initial swelling. Ensure that you do not apply solid ice as this will freeze and damage skin tissue.
  • As the skin begins to heal, it will dry out. The crusts that form on the treated skin is completely normal. Do NOT attempt to remove them. Allow them to naturally exfoliate off.
  • Do not apply moisturisers, eye products, make-up or perfumed cleansers to the treated area until the crusts have fallen off.
  • Until the crusts have fallen off and the redness has disappeared, apply the recommended aftercare (with or without colour) to protect the area.
  • Do Not apply adhesive plasters to, or to cover the treated skin. Removal of such, may damage the healing skin.
  • Do not apply any product containing alcohol to the treated area. Luke warm, pre-boiled water can be used to clean the area.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning of the treated area until the skin resumes normal tone (typically 12 weeks). The sun could increase the chances of pigmentation on the treated area. The use of a high SPF is recommended for this period.
  • In some cases, more than one treatment may be required. This can usually be performed from 6 weeks onwards.

IPL Skin Therapies

  • No sun exposure, sunbeds or tan 6 weeks before treatment or once course of treatment has begun. An SPF must be used.

  • Soothing preparations can be used but they must not contain anti-inflammatory or blood thinning properties. Avoid preparations such as Aloe Vera, Tea Tree Oil, Ibuleve, Difflam etc.
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication for at least 7 days if possible. Products include ibuprofen, aspirin etc.

  • If you can refrain from the use of make-up that day this will also give the chance for the skin to cool naturally.
  • Try to use cleansing products that have been developed for sensitive skin for 2 days after treatment. Be gentle when drying or rubbing the area treated. Use a good range of active skin products (containing vitamins A & C), use of a good sunscreen is advisable.
  • Avoid tanning beds or sunbathing for at least 7 days after the treatment. If you are planning more treatments avoid tanning and sun exposure until course of treatment is complete.

  • It is important for you to remember to take extra care of the waxed area, especially within the first 24 hours. When a large number of hairs have been removed the area will be vulnerable.
  • Hair needs to be about 1/2cm long before it can be successfully removed (with the exception of Lycon waxing, which will remove hairs as short as 1mm).
  • Treatments are recommended every 4-6 weeks. If you normally shave, allow 2-3 weeks growth before waxing
  • Exfoliate 24 hours before, but don’t apply moisturiser prior to waxing

  • Don’t apply products or perfumes to waxed areas for 24 hours, other than an antiseptic cream, tea tree or lavender lotion after showering. We offer bareMinerals Mineral Make-up to purchase, this is ideal to use after your treatments (depending on the product) can have as few as 5 ingredients. ‘Make-up so pure, you can sleep in it’
  • To prevent ingrowing hairs start 3 days after your waxing by gently exfoliating your skin 3 times a week & moisturising every day
  • Avoid Tight clothing

1 month before - microneedling  & Chemical Peel

  • Any eyelash / eyebrow tinting should be done at least 48 hours prior or post treatment
  • Exfoliate and moisturise for a few days before your tan. We offer a range of pre-care products that work with your skin to ensure the best tan possible.
  • On the day of your tan, don’t apply moisturisers or use moisturising shower gels.
  • Remember to bring loose, dark clothing and flip flops with you to wear after your Spray Tan. With ideally no bra. The first few hours after application are the most crucial, and any tight-fitting clothing may affect the results. Arrive with dry hair, wet hair may drip onto your freshly tanned skin
  • Wear dark, loose clothing and flip flops to leave. Avoid exercise until guide colour is washed off. After showering pat skin dry, do not rub.
  • Avoid sitting in one place for too long and not directly on light coloured leather or fabrics until you’ve showered as the guide colour can cause discolouration. The guide colour may rub off on clothing, please note it may stain nylon, lycra, polyester and silks and the dry cleaning process may not remove all traces of tanning solution.
  • Allow 8 hours or ideally overnight for tan to develop. For rapid tans allow 1, 3 or 5 hours for the tan to develop before showering, depending on colour desired, light, medium or dark.
  • To maintain your tan it’s best to use the correct homecare products to prolong its life & allow an even breakdown, we offer a full range of White to brown homecare. Use exfoliator to break down the tan evenly, start using about 3 days after your spray tan.
  • Avoid long, hot baths/ showers, heavy sweating and swimming pools / Jacuzzis as these can cause your tan to fade prematurely or unevenly
  • Under 16’s will require parent / guardian to be present during the appointment.
  • REMEMBER – Spray Tan does not contain an SPF, please wear an oil-free protection

Nails

  • Leave adequate time after your appointment to allow polish to dry before leaving the salon
  • Acrylics and gels are not indestructible so can be damaged if put under pressure or with general activity
  • Treat your nails with care, don’t use them as tools. Try to use the pads of the fingers and not the nail
  • Wear gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or gardening
  • Use cuticle oil regularly throughout the day to the cuticle area to keep the nail nourished and hydrated
  • Moisturise hands and feet daily and use a foot file regularly between treatments
  • Avoid biting, picking or peeling your nails or gel polish. Have all gels or extensions removed professionally or purchase a gel removal kit
  • Use non-acetone polish remover on nail extensions to change any polish
  • Nail extensions can be filed between appointments, but don’t cut
  • Remember to bring flip flops if you are having toes polished and avoid closed toe footwear for the rest of the day; gel is fine as this is instantly dry
  • Gel requires a refresh or removal and new set every 2 weeks, avoid filing between appointments as this will break the seal of the gel and can lead to chipping
  • Prolong the life of your polish with the use of Top Priority under and over the nail after a day. Every 3-4 days apply a coat of Colour and Brilliance to keep the colour fresh
  • Nails don’t need to ‘breathe’ keep them polished and they stay protected.
  • Nails should be trimmed once a month to promote growth, use clippers not scissors
  • Please note we cannot guarantee how long your nails will last as this depends on upkeep, wear & tear and aftercare. Any nail colour applied is only as good as the base it’s put on, any previous damage may reduce the life of the colour applied and this will be pointed out at the beginning of your treatment. However we will repair any damage within 5 days of your treatment free of charge, after this time a charge of either £3 or £5 per nail will apply, depending on the type of nail applied

Ear Piercing

  • Wash hands thoroughly before touching studs or ear
  • Cleanse front and back of the ear 2 times a day with Studex After Piercing Solution without removing studs. Then rotate studs 2 or 3 times, a half turn left and right, thus avoiding hair wrapping around the post at the back of the lobe. In between cleansing, the ear should be kept dry.
  • Keep hair spray, soap, shampoo and other preparations away from the ear. After shampooing, the ear should be rinsed with clear water and then cleansed with Studex After Piercing Solution as described above.
  • The pierced area should be Cleansed with Studex After Piercing Solution then kept Dry, especially after bathing, swimming or exercise

DO NOT

  • Remove studs or handle your ears and/or studs unnecessarily
  • Push the butterfly along the post towards the ear – the butterfly must always be positioned at the tip of the post. Feel the position each time you clean the ear – it must feel smooth. This ensures that the earring remains loose during the healing period. This is essential as tight earrings may lead to inflammation.

DO

  • Leave studs in the ears for 6 weeks continuously (12 weeks for cartilage)
  • After 6 weeks (12 weeks for cartilage) the stud can be removed and other post-type earrings may be worn continuously.
  • Use only post-style earrings continuously for the first 6 months from piercing. The post should be a surgical grade of stainless steel or other hypo-allergenic material.

EAR CARTILAGE

  • Due to the nature of ear cartilage, extra care should be observed during the healing period.

Minor pain/redness may occur immediately- this is normal. This will settle within 48 hours provided proper after-care is carried out. If undue pain/swelling/redness occurs at any time, seek medical advice immediately. Do not remove studs before the relevant medical advice. Failure to properly follow after-care procedures or to seek immediate medical advice, should a problem occur, may result in permanent damage to the ear cartilage.

Nose Piercing

  • Wash hands before touching newly pierced nose
  • Bathe your nose piercing up to 3 times per day, outside only
  • Turn the stud 180 degrees one way and then 180 degrees the other way i.e. ½ turn slowly 2 to 3 times per day
  • Ensure shampoo, soap, make-up and other preparations are kept away from the nose
  • After showering, washing hair and swimming bathe nose immediately
  • Healing period is 12 weeks, after this time don’t leave the piercing out for too long as it may heal quickly.
  • Stud is not to be removed or handled unnecessarily
  • Care must be taken when washing or drying your face and when blowing your nose.
